During House debates over the impeachment of President Richard Nixon, Representative Barbara Jordan delivered these televised remarks explaining her reasons for supporting each of the five articles of impeachment. The public’s positive response raised Jordan’s profile considerably. On July 27, 1974 the House Judiciary Committee recommended Nixon be impeached and removed from office. Nixon announced his resignation from office on August 8.
