A taste for handshakes and hot dogs must run in families. The Senate alone has had 43 pairs of fathers and sons and, thanks to Frank and Lisa Murkowski, one father-daughter combination. Henry Dodge of Wisconsin and his son Augustus even served in the Senate at the same time (their credentials are above)!

This Father’s Day we celebrate the many dads who set an example of public service for their children in and out of Congress.

Credentials of Henry Dodge of Wisconsin (6/8/1848) and Augustus C. Dodge of Iowa (1/10/1849), Records of the U.S. Senate
